Consequences of a Muslim Identifying as a Non-Muslim in Jest or Otherwise

Consequences of a Muslim Identifying as a Non-Muslim in Jest or Otherwise

Question: What if a Muslim said jokingly or knowingly that I'm a Hindu, Yahudi, Christian etc or a Kaafir/non Muslim? Kisi Musalman ka mazaq me ya kisi tarah khud ko Hindu, Yahudi, Eisayi waghaira ya kaafir kehna? किसी मुस्लमान का मज़ाक़ में या किसी तरह ख़ुद को हिंदू, यहूदी, ईसाई वग़ैरह या काफ़िर कहना?

Answer by Mufti Muhammad Shahid Barkati

Understanding the Consequences of a Muslim Identifying as a Non-Muslim in Jest or Otherwise

In the realm of Islamic teachings, words hold profound significance, especially when they pertain to one's faith. A question arises: What are the implications for a Muslim who, jokingly or under any circumstance, claims to be a Hindu, Christian, Jew, or a non-Muslim (Kaafir)? This issue is not just a matter of casual conversation but one that holds considerable weight in Islamic jurisprudence.

The Gravity of the Matter:

It's crucial to understand that in Islam, the declaration of faith (Shahada) is the cornerstone of a Muslim's identity. When a Muslim, in full awareness and sound state of mind, declares themselves as a non-Muslim, it is a matter of serious concern. Whether said in jest, anger, or any other emotion, the implications are severe.

Reaffirming Faith and Repentance:

For an individual who has fallen into this situation, the path to return involves sincere repentance (Tawba) and the redeclaration of the Shahada to re-enter the fold of Islam. If married, they must also renew their marriage contract, as apostasy affects the validity of the marital bond in Islam.

Islamic Jurisprudence on the Issue:

Referencing key Islamic books such as "KITAB AL BAHRUR RAIQ" Volume Number 5, Safa Number 133 and "Fatawa Alamgiri"  Volume 2 Safa 279, the rulings from prominent Islamic scholars, the gravity of this act is evident. In "KITAB AL BAHRUR RAIQ", it is mentioned that a person declaring themselves as non-Muslim, even in jest, is considered to have left the fold of Islam. This act, known as apostasy, requires the individual to reaffirm their faith in Islam. (For more details, Refer the below Video by Mufti Muhammad Shahid Barkati)

The issue of a Muslim identifying as a non-Muslim, whether in jest or seriousness, is not to be taken lightly. It's a matter that directly impacts one's faith and standing in the Islamic community. This blog post aims to enlighten and remind Muslims of the weight of their words and the importance of maintaining their identity in faith, even in casual or emotional moments.

For those seeking further guidance or have questions about this topic, consulting knowledgeable Islamic scholars or reaching out to reliable Islamic jurisprudence resources is highly recommended.

Namaaz mein Bismillah kahan padhna aur kahan nahi padhna chahiye?

Namaaz mein Bismillah kahan padhna aur kahan nahi padhna chahiye?

Islamic Q&A: Namaaz mein Bismillah kahan padhna aur kahan nahi padhna chahiye? नमाज़ में बिस्मिल्लाह कहां पढ़ना और कहां नहीं पढ़ना चाहिą¤?  In Namaaz, where to recite Bismillah and where not?

Question: Namaz me Sana,Surah fatiha, Surat Milana, Attahiyat, Daroode Ibrahim, Duae Masoora phadne se phle Bismillah Padhna kaisa ha? Ya Namaz me kis-kis ko padhne se pahle Bismillah padhna chahiye....???

Answer By Mufti Muhammad Shahid Barkaati

Bismillah ("In the name of Allah") is recited at the beginning of each Surah (chapter) in the Quran, including during Namaz (prayer). This is typically done before reciting Surah Al-Fatiha, the first chapter of the Quran, which is an essential part of the prayer.

Mufti Saab here gives you detailed information on where and when to read "Bismillah" in Namaz.

Qurbaani Ka Waqt Kab Se Kab Tak Hai? (When can we perform Qurbani?) - QURBANI Q&A

Qurbaani Ka Waqt Kab Se Kab Tak Hai? (When can we perform Qurbani?) - QURBANI Q&A

Question: Qurbaani Ka Waqt Kab Se Kab Tak Hai? (When can we perform Qurbani?)

Answer:

Qurbaani Ka  Waqt 10th Zilhijja Ki Subah Saadiq Se 12th Ke Gurub Aaftaab Tak Hai Yani Teen Din Aur Do Raate, Lekin Daswi ko qurbani kerna Sabse Afzal Hai Fir Girahwi Fir Barahwi

Shahar Me Qurbbani Ki Jaye To Shart Ye Hai Ke Eid Ki Namaaz Ke Baad Ho Aur Dehaat Me Chunke Namaaz Eid Nahi Is Liye Subah Saadiq Se Ho Sakti Hai

Qurbaani Ke Waqt Qurbaani Hi Karni Laazim Hai Itni Qeemat Ya Itni Qeemat Ka Janwar Karne Se Wajib Ada Na Hoga

Qurbaani Ke Din Guzar Jane Ke Baad Qurbaani Fout Ho Gai Ab Nahi Ho Sakti Lihaza Agar Koi Janwar Qurbaani Ke Liye Kharid Rakha Hai To Usko Sadqa Kare Warna Ek Bakri Ki Qeemat Sadqa Kare

Jab Qurbaani Ki Sharte Payi Jaye (Jin Ka Upar Bayaan Huwa) To Ek Bakri Ya Bhaid Ka Zibah Karna Ya Gaaye Bhains Ka Saatwa Hissa Wajib Hai Is Se Kam Nahi Ho Sakta Yaha Tak Ke Agar Kisi Shareek Ka Hissa Saatwe Se Kam Hai To Kisi Ki Qurbaani Sahi Na Hogi Haa Saat Se Kam Shareek Ho Aur Hisse Bhi Kamo Beish Ho Lekin Kisi Ka Hissa Saatwe Se Kam Na Ho To Jayez Hai

Qurbaani Ke Sab Shareeko Ki Niyyat Taqarrub (Yaani Sawaab Pana) Hona Chahiye Khali Gosht Haasil Karna Na Ho Lihaza Aqeeqa Karne Wala Shareek Ho Sakta Hai (Ke Aqeeqa Bhi Taqarrub Ki Ek Surat Hai)

Q&A - How to pray I’itikaf Namaz during Ramazan | Ramadan Preparation

Q&A - How to pray I’itikaf Namaz during Ramazan | Ramadan Preparation

Question: How to prayer Itekhab Namaz during Ramadan
Answer
As Salam Wa Alaikum
Hadrat ‘Ayeshah Siddiqah Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha reported that the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings be Upon Him used to engage in I’tikaaf. i.e. private devotions in the mosque during the last ten nights of Ramadan till he met his Lord. [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Page 271 - Sahih Muslim, Vol 1, Page 371]
Hadrat Anas Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings be Upon Him used to engage in I’tikaaf in the mosque in the last ten days of Ramadan. But, one year he omitted the I’tikaaf so he engaged in I’tikaf during twenty nights the following year. [Sunan Abi Dawood, Vol 1, Page 334]
It is sunnat-e-Mu’akkadah to perform I’itikaf in the mosque in the last ten days of the month of Ramadan, as stated by Hadrat Sheikh ‘Abd al-Haq “Muhaddith-e-Dehlwi”:
According to the Hanafi madhhab, I’itikaf is Sunnat-e-Mu’akkadah as the Holy Prophet always used to perform it till he passed away. [Ashi’ah al-Lam’at Vol. 2 Pg. 118]
One should enter the Masjid on the 20th of Ramadhan before sunset, with the intention of I’itikaf and to stay there till the end of Ramadhan i.e. leave the mosque after the Maghrib prayer on the 30th of Ramadan or if the moon for Eid was sighted on the 29th then to leave after the Maghrib prayer of that day. This I’itikaf is “sunnat-e-Kifayah” meaning that if I’itikaf was performed by even one person in a town then the religious duty shal be fulfilled on behalf of everyone. Otherwise, all shall be accountable for neglecting it.
There are many virtues and excellences for such an I’itikaf. Baihaqi has reported on the authority of Hadrat Imam Husain that the Messenger of Allah has stated, “whosoever performs I’itikaf for ten days in the month of Ramadan, it is as though he has performed two ‘Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) and two Hajj (greater pilgrimage).”
