Islamic Calendar 2024, Festivals, Holidays and Events for Muslims

Islamic Calendar 2024

Islamic Events and occasions hold great spiritual and traditional significance and a rich historical legacy for Muslims across the globe. The important Islamic events, this year in 2024 kicks off with the Urs of Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz on 18th Jan 2024 in Ajmer Sharif, Rajasthan, India. The "Beginning of Jamada-ul-akhirah" is on January 14 2024, which marks the advent of the fifth Islamic month. The following month, on February 9, the cherished "Lailat-ul-Meraj" (also known as Shab-e-Meraj) honours the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam celestial journey to heaven.

As we progress through the 2024 Islamic calendar, the next significant date to note is "Beginning of Shaban" on 12 February, which marks the beginning of the eighth Islamic month. This leads to the highly anticipated "Shabe-e-Barat" or "Nisf Shaban" on 26 February. This night holds great significance in forgiveness, self-reflection, and prayer. The following month, March 12 kicks off the most sacred month in Islam - Ramadan. It is a special time for Muslims practicing fasting, reflecting on oneself, and strengthening community bonds. Within this month, on 7 April, lies the highly revered "Lailat-ul-Qadr" (Shab-E-Qadr), often considered the most blessed night in Islam. It is believed to be the night when the Holy Quran was initially revealed to the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.

"Eid-ul-Fitr" on 11 April marks the end of Ramadan, a festive day of celebration, gratitude, and feasting. Its also the start of Month of Shawwal. The following months, Dhul-Qadah and Dhul-Hijjah, starting on 10 May and 8 June respectively, are sacred months culminating in the Hajj pilgrimage. "Day of Arafah" on 16 June and "Eid-ul-Adaha" (Bakrid) on 17 June are pivotal events associated with Hajj, emphasizing sacrifice and devotion.

The Islamic New Year begins with Muharram which falls on 9 July 2024, leading to "Yaum al-Ashura" on 18 July, a day of fasting commemorating various historical events, including the martyrdom of Hussain ibn Ali Radi Allahu Anhu.

The calendar continues with the beginning of Month of Safar and Rabi-Ul-Awal on 8 August 2024 and 6 September 2024, respectively. "Eid Milad-un-Nabi" on 17 September celebrates the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam birthday, a day of joy and reflection.

The year further unfolds with the beginning of Rabi-Ul-Thani on 6 October, Gyarvi Sharif on 16 October, and the beginnings of Jamada-ul-ula and Jamada-ul-akhirah on 4 November and 4 December, respectively. Each event and month carries unique significance, reflecting the rich tapestry of Islamic traditions and beliefs.
