Naat Sharif is recited to pay homage to the greatness, and humbleness of Prophet Muhammad sallallahu Alaihiwa salam. Naat Sharif is recited by all Muslims in their own respective manner to show their dedicated love for beloved Prophet Muhammad.

Hadiths of Jumma Prayer

1) Hadrat Salman Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah has said,

“If a man takes bath on Friday; purifies himself as much as he can with ablution, applies oil from his oils, or uses any available perfume in his house, then goes out and, without squeezing between two men, prays what is prescribed for him, then remains silent when the Imam speaks (delivers sermon) his (minor) sins between that time and the next Friday will be forgiven.” [Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 1, Page 121, Book on the Friday Prayer]

2) Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah has said,

“When Friday comes, the angels stand at the door of the mosque recording the people in the order of their arrival. The parable of the first comer is like the parable of one who sends (to Makkah) a she-camel for sacrifice; the man who comes next is like the one who sends a cow for sacrifice, next a sheep, next like the one who sends a hen, next like the one who sends an egg. Then when the Imam stand up (on the Minbar/Pulpit) to deliver the sermon, they close their sheets and listen to the remembrance (sermon).” [Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 1, Page 127, Book on the Friday Prayer / Sahih Muslim, Vol. 1, Page 282, Book on the Friday Prayer]

3) Hadrat Samurah ibn Jundab Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah has said,

من ترك الجمعة من غير عذر فليتصدق بدينار فإن لم يجد فبنصف دينار

“Whosoever omits the Friday prayer without excuse he should give a Dinar in alms; or if he does not have (it), half a Dinar.” [Musnad Imam Ahmad, Vol. 5, Page 632 / Sunan Abi Dawud, Vol. 1, Page 151, Book on Prayer]

4) Hadrat Samurah ibn Jundub Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah has said,

احضروا الذكر وادنوا من الإمام فإن الرجل لا يزال يتباعد حتى يؤخر فى الجنة وإن دخلها

“Be present at the sermon (delivered on Fridays) and draw near the Imam; because whoever always keeps far away will likewise, be far away (towards the back) in Paradise, even though he will enter it.” [Sunan Abi Dawud, Vol. 1, Page 158, Book on Prayer]

5) Hadrat Ibn ‘Umar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah has said,

إذا نعس أحدكم يوم الجمعة فليتحول من مجلسه ذلك

“When any of you dozes (in the Masjid) during the Friday prayer, he should change his place (if possible).” [Sunan Tirmidhi, Vol. 1, Page 115, Chapters on the Friday Prayer]

6) Hadrat Anas Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that

إذا اشتد البرد بكر بالصلاة ، وإذا اشتد الحر أبرد بالصلاة ، يعنى الجمعة

When it was very cold, the Holy Prophet used to observe the prayer early; and when it was very hot, he used to delay the prayer till it was cooler. This refers to the Friday prayer. [Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 1, Page 124, Book on the Friday Prayer]

Important Notes on Friday Prayers

1. All those who listen to the mu’azzin calling out the Adhan for the Friday prayers in front of the Imam, should not reply to his words. This is a more preventative ruling. [Fatawa-e-Radawiyyah]

It has been stated in al-Durr al-Mukhtar [Page 57]:

One should not reply with the tongue, to the words of the Adhan called in front of the imam, prior to the Khutba (sermon).

In Radd al-Muhtar Vol. 1 Page 575 it has been stated:

It is makruh (disliked) to reply to the (words of the) Adhan at such a time.

2. On hearing the Adhan for the Khutba, when the mu’azzin calls out the Blessed Name of the Holy Prophet, then it is best not to kiss ones thumbs at that time. The Durud Sharif (invoking blessings) on the Messenger of Allah should also be recited from the heart; not from the tongue, as remaining silent in this particular time is Fard (obligatory). This rule only applies to the adhan for the khutba, otherwise in the other adhans one should kiss their thumbs, place them on their eyes as this is Mustahab. [Fatawa-e-Radawiyyah]

In Radd al-Muhtar Vol. 1 Page 575, it has been stated:

The more favoured opinion is to invoke blessings (send durud) upon the Holy prophet from one’s heart (and to recite anything from the tongue).
3. To read the khutba in any language other than Arabic or to amalgamate another language with the khutba read in Arabic is disliked (makruh) and against the sunnat that has been transmitted from our pious predecessors. [Fatawa-e-Radawiyyah, Bahar-e-Shari’at]

4. Some people lift their hands in the time that is between the two khutbas delivered by the Imam. This should not be done, as it is necessary to remain silent throughout and in between the two khutbas. [Bahar-e-Shari’at – Vol. 1 Chapter 4 Page 90-91]

5. It is not permissible to establish the Friday Prayer in villages. However, if people do pray it, then one should not prevent them. [Fatawa-e-Radawiyyah]

6. Because the Friday Prayer is not allowed in the villages (and in some countries), the Zohar (Mid-Noon prayer) is still fard upon them, though they may have prayed the Friday Prayer. Hence, it is obligatory that one prays the 4 Rakahs fardh salaah for Zohar if one has prayed the Friday Prayer in villages or places where the Friday Prayer cannot be established due to reasons as explained by the Shari’ah.

بسم الله دخلت و عليه توكلت و نويت سنت الاعتكاف۔ اللهم افتح لي ابواب رحمتكك

Bismillahi Dakhaltu Wa'Alayhi Tawakkaltu Wanawaytu Sunnatul I'tikaaf

Itikaaf Niyat in English

“With the Blessed Name of Allah have I entered (into the Masjid) and in Him have I placed my trust, and I have made the intention of the Sunnah of I’itikaf. O Allah open Your doors of Mercy upon me.”

Niyyah For Nafl I'tikaf
Niyyah For Nafl I'tikaf

NAWAYTUL I`TIKFA MA DUMTU FIL MASJID

I intend making I'tikaf for Allah, the High,
the Glorious, as long as I remain in the Masjid.

What is Itikaaf?

Itikaaf is to remain in Masjid for particular days with the intention and purpose of Allah's worship and dedicating himself to Allah in devotion in form of Dua, Azkar, Namaz, Zikr.

Itikaaf is sunnat-e-Mu’akkadah and must be performed in mosque in the last 10 days of Ramadan.
[Hazrat Sheikh ‘Abd al-Haq “Muhaddith-e-Dehlwi in Ashi’ah al-Lam’at Vol. 2 Pg. 118]

This can by one person or by group of persons of the particular place. As this is sunnat-e-Mu’akkadah, neglecting it will be accountable to the whole place of area they belong. If even a single person performs Itikaaf, the this religious duty shall be fulfilled on behalf of everyone. This Itikaaf is Sunnat-e-Kifayah.

Who is Mu'takif?

A person performing Itikaaf is called as Mu'takif. The mu’takif smust devote himself  Allah prayers. Recite the Holy Qur’an, Read Hadiths Holy Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, learn and gain Islamic knowledge.
(Fatawa-e-‘Alamgiri, Vol 1 Page 198)

Types of Itikaaf

1) Wajib: This is for the one who had made a mannat or vow or pledge of Itikaaf for the sake of Allah, if his wish is fulfilled. This is to be performed for 3 days with fasting in it.

2) Sunnat-e-Mu’akkadah: This is performed on the last 10 days of Holy month of Ramadan. The person must enter on the 20th of Ramadan before sunset, Make the intention or Niyaat of Itikaaf to stay for 10 days and leave on 30th of Ramadan, after the moon is sighted.

3) Mustabab or Sunnat-e-Ghair Mu’akkadah: This is Nafl Itikaaf performed at any time. Lets say you entered the masjid, make a intention or niyaat of Nafl Itikaaf. You will be rewarded till the time you are in Masjid. Fasting is not required in Mustahab Itikaaf

Conditions Of I'tikaf:

1. Niyyah: Intention.
2. Taharah: To be free from Hadathul Akbar for entry and all hadath
for acquisition of reward.
3. Sanity: i.e. a person should not be mad.

Things Permitted During I'tikaf:
1. Eating.
2. Sleeping.
3. Discussing matters of Deen or necessary talk.
NOTE: It is Makruh to observe complete silence as a form of Worship
this does not however permit worldly talk.

One Is Permitted To Leave The Masjid:
1. For wajib ghusl.
2. For wudhu.
3. To answer the call of nature (toilet).
NOTE: Leaving the Masjid without a Shar’i reason will nullify the I'tikaf.

Things To Do During I'tikaf:
A Mu'takif should engage himself in the following:
1. Ibadah (any form).
2. Recital of the Holy Qur'an.
3. Nafl Salaah and dhikr.
4. Salawat (Durud) and Istighfar.
5. Remembrance of Allah I.

6. Learn or teach the knowledge of Deen.

Reward Of I'tikaf
Ibn Abbas Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha narrates Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings be Upon Him related ‘Whomsoever performs I'tikaf for a day: Allah I will spread three trenches between him (or her) and the fire of hell. The width of each trench being greater than the distance between the Heaven and earth.’

In addition: to perform I'tikaf of the last ten days of Ramadhan is equivalent to the reward of two Hajj and two Umrah!

Few Hadiths on Itikaaf

1) Hadrat ‘Ayeshah Siddiqah Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha reported that the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings be Upon Him used to engage in I’tikaaf. i.e. private devotions in the mosque during the last ten nights of Ramadan till he met his Lord. [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Page 271 - Sahih Muslim, Vol 1, Page 371]

2) Hadrat Anas Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings be Upon Him used to engage in I’tikaaf in the mosque in the last ten days of Ramadan. But, one year he omitted the I’tikaaf so he engaged in I’tikaf during twenty nights the following year. [Sunan Abi Dawood, Vol 1, Page 334]

3) Baihaqi has reported on the authority of Hadrat Imam Husain that the Messenger of Allah has stated, “whosoever performs I’itikaf for ten days in the month of Ramadan, it is as though he has performed two ‘Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) and two Hajj (greater pilgrimage).”

Itikaaf for Women

Women can also perform Itikaaf at home by designating a part of their home, devoting self in Zikr, Namaz, Dua for Allah. Once you have made the intention of Itikaaf, you cannot take part in any household activities apart for your own requirement.

This is also performed for last 10 days of Ramadan, from 20th of Ramadan before sunset till 30th Ramadan till Moon Sighting. All the purity rules are applicable here also to the one performing Itikaaf

Important Notes by Mufti Muhammad Shahid Barkati

  • A man who performs i'tikaaf can go to the ghusl or wudhukhana built inside the mosque for all kinds of ghusl, but outside the mosque can go only for ghusl of impurity, that too when bathing in the mosque is not possible in any way. One cannot go out of the Masjid for Ghusl of cleanliness, coolness or Sunnah.
  • The place where the woman is performing i'tikaaf cannot go outside the place for any kind of Ghusl to any part of the house, even if the bathroom is on the side. If the impurity is caused by Ehtilam, then one can go to the home made bathroom, Hajj, Nifaas and association will break Itikaaf.

Open challenge By Hafiz Ehsan Qadri of One Million if any one proves Taraweeh is of 8 Rakats

The One Million Rupee reward- Taraweeh 8 Rakath challenge by Hafiz Ehsan Qadiri

Rs 1 Million as reward for the one who proves THARAVEEH to be 8 Rakaths from the Hadees below

Sahih Bukhari, Book of TAHAJJUD, Hadees no 248

Narrated Abu Salma bin 'Abdur Rahman: I asked 'Aisha, "How is the prayer of Allah's Apostle during the month of Ramadan." She said, "Allah's Apostle never exceeded eleven Rakat in Ramadan or in other months; he used to offer four Rakat-- do not ask me about their beauty and length, then four Rakat, do not ask me about their beauty and length, and then three Rakat." Aisha further said, "I said, 'O Allah's Apostle! Do you sleep before offering the Witr prayer?' He replied, 'O 'Aisha! My eyes sleep but my heart remains awake'!"

The explanation of the above Hadith

Tharaveeh changed to Night Prayer by the Wahabis/Salafis

Initially the Wahabis/Salafis tried to prove that Tharaveeh was 8 and not 20 by misquoting The Hadees of Syyida Aishah Siddeeqah (which is meant for Tahajjud and not Tharaveeh as it includes Ramazan and other Months as well)

Refer to the Hadees they quote

Some Points from the above Hadees

1. The Hadees is recorded by Imam Bukhari Alaihir Rahmah in the Chapter of Tahajjud, so to prove Tharaveeh from above is incorrect.

2. If this was for Tharaveeh, then they should offer Tharaveeh in the months other than Ramazan as well as mentioned in the above Hadees

3. They even cannot pray Tahajjud if they offer such lengthy Tharaveeh as mentioned in the above Hadees,

4. They should refrain wearing 3 quarter trousers, folding trousers upto the knee, praying without Turban or Cap because the Hadees talks about the beauty in Prayer and not like of ROWDIES

5. The Blessed Heart of Allah's Habeeb Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is always awake and engrossed in the remembrance of Allah Tha'ala and everything on the universe is apparent to The Most Beloved of Allah, Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.

And now, they started saying there is nothing called Tharaveeh and its only Qiyam ul Layl (Night Prayer) when they were badly exposed by Our Sunni Ulama

Dear Muslim brothers and sisters
