What is Zakat, Sadaka and Fitra

What is Zakat, Sadaka and Fitra

What is Zakat, Sadaka and Fitra
What is Zakat, Sadaka and Fitra
What is #Zakat, #Sadaka and #Fitra

Zakat is Farz (Compulsory) on all muslims who is Maal e Nisaab and has Seven and a Half Tola (7 1/2) of  Gold or Fifty Two and a Half Tola (52.5) of Silver. The one who rejects it is a Infidel (Kaafir) those who do not give Zakat are wrongdoers and worthy of punishment. According to Shariat, Zakat is defined as from your goods to take one part for Allah which has been fixed by Shariat and to make a Muslim poor person the owner of it.

Conditions when Zakat would become necessary

1. To be a Muslim

2. To be an adult

3. To be sane

4. To be free (i.e. not a slave)

5. To be the owner of goods above Nisaab (threshold-where Zakat would become necessary)

6. To be a complete owner of the goods

7. To be free from any sort of loan

8. To be free from any goods which are regarded as basic necessities of living

9. The good have a value which will increase

10. For a year to pass

How much Zakat should be given ?

When you have enough gold or silver that goes above the Nisaab then one fortieth is given, i.e. 2.5%. Whether it be in it's original form or in the form of coins or something has been made out of it (such as jewellery, utensils, watch etc.) then Zakat is necessary on it. For example if you have 88 grammes of gold then 2.25 grammes of Zakat is necessary or if you have 620 grammes of silver then 15.75 grammes of silver is necessary for Zakat [Durr-e-Mukhtar, Bahar e Shariat]

Who can accept Zakat or Given Zakat:

1. Faqir - poor person

2. Misqueen - Beggar 3 Aamil (Designated Person)

3. Aamil (Designated Person)

4. Riqab - Slave

5. Gharim - Person in debt

6. Fee-Sabeelillah - Spent in the path of Allah

7. Abn-isabeel - Traveller

It is better when giving Zakat, Sadaqa etc. that it should be given to your own brothers and sisters, then to their children, then to your paternal uncles and aunts and then to their children, then to your maternal uncles and aunts and then to their children and then to people living in your home village or town [Johra, Alamgiri etc.]. It is quoted in the Hadith Sharif that Allah Ta'ala does not accept those people's Sadaqat whose relatives are in need of it and they give the money to others [Radd-ul-Mohtar].

SADAQA AND FITRA

The Holy Prophet Sallallaho Alaihi Wasallam has stated that ' a servant's fast remains stuck between the earth and sky until he gives Sadaqa-e-Fitra [Delami, Khateeb, Ibn-e-AsaakarJ.

Sadqah is wajib on a person who is maal-E-Nisaab and must give Sadqa-e-Fitr for himself and for his children, as long as the children are not the owner of Nisaab themselves and if they are then the Sadqa for them will have to be given from their goods. It is Wajib to give Sadqa of a mental child even when they reach adulthood upon the father as long as the child is not the owner of Nisaab themselves, and if they are the owner of Nisaab then the Sadqa will be given from their goods [Durr-e-Mukhtar, Radd-ul-Mohtar].

Quantity of Sadqa-e-Fitr

The quantity of Sadqa-e-Fitr is half a Sa'a of wheat or it's flour or instead of this half a Sa'a of it's mixture with barley, or one Sa'a of dates or raisins or barley or it's flour or instead of this one Sa'a of it's mixture [Hidaya, Durr-e-Mukhtar, Alamgiri etc.}. Rule: It is better to give the flour of wheat or barley rather than the grains and it is better than that to give the monetary value, whether you give the value of wheat, barley or dates. However, during a price war or famine it is better to give the goods than money. If money is given for bad wheat then subsidise the rest of the money with the money of good wheat [Radd-ul-Mohtar].

What is weight of a Sa 'a

After great study and analysis it is suggested that the price at present (however, this can increase) two pounds and fifty pence (£2.50) The price of half a Sa'a is one pound and twenty five pence (£1.25). One Sa'a is four pounds and six and a half ounces (4lb, 6.5ozl and half a Sa'a is two pounds and three and a quarter ounces (2lb 3 25 ozi For the sake of ease it is better to give four and a half pounds of (4 5lb) barley or dates or two and a quarter pounds (2.25lb) of wheat for each person as Sadqa-e-Fitr.

Who should be given Sadqa-e-Fitr ?

The same people qualify for giving Sadqa-e-Fitr as those who qualify for giving Zakat to except for an Aamil An Aamil can be given Zakat but not Sadqa-e-Fitr [Durr-e-Mukhtar, Radd-ul-Mohtar].

Important Points on Sadaqa-e-Fitr:

1. Sadaqa-e-Fitr is Wajib upon such a person who owns assets, which equal the value of the Nisab. Such individuals should give Sadaqa-e-Fitr on their behalf and on behalf of their children, if they do not own assets equal to the value of Nisab. Yes, however, if the children do own assets which are equal to or more than the Nisab limit, then the Sadaqa-e-Fitr shall be given from their own wealth. [al-Durr al-Mukhtar, Bahar-e-Shari’at]

2. The owner of Nisab in the ruling as regards Sadaqa-e-Fitr is such a person who has 7 ½ Tola gold (93 grammes 312 milligrammes,) or 52 ½ Tola silver (653 grammes 184 milligrammes), or their equivalent value in money or any other form of asset.  Or, one owns business or non-business stock equivalent to that value, and these goods are additional to the basic necessities of living (Hajat-e-Asliyyah).

3. For the Sadaqa-e-Fitr to become Wajib it is not necessary that one has fasted. Therefore, if anyone did not fast due to any excuse valid in the eyes of the Islamic Law; such as one is a musafir (travelling to a destination which is at a distance of approximately 57 ½ miles or 92 kilometres), or is ill such that his illness shall become worse if he fasts, or because of weakness caused by old age, or – Allah forbid! – one did not keep the fasts due to any non-valid reason, then the Sadaqa-e-Fitr is still Wajib upon the person. [Radd al-Muhtar – Vol. 2 Page 76 and Bahar-e-Shari’at]

4. If the father is so poor (that he cannot give his own Sadaqa-e-Fitr let alone on behalf of his children,) or has passed away, then it is Wajib on the grandfather to give Sadaqa-e-Fitr on behalf of his grandchildren. [al-Durr al-Mukhtar]

5. If one wants to give anything besides wheat, barley, dates or raisins; for example, rice, millet or any other linseed, then the price of 1 sa’ of wheat or ½ sa’ of barley should be taken into consideration.

6. In terms of weight, one Sa’ is four pounds, six and a half ounces (4lb 6.5 oz) and half a Sa’ is two pounds, three and a quarter ounces (2lb 3.25 oz).

7. It is Mustahab (act of great reward) to give the Sadaqa-e-Fitr on the morning of Eid day (after the beginning time for Fajr), before going to the Eidgah to perform the Eid prayer. [Fatawa-e-‘Alamgiri – Vol. 1, Page 180]

8. It is permissible to give Sadaqa-e-Fitr prior to the month of Ramadan or in Ramadan before the day of Eid. [Fatawa-e-‘Alamgiri – Vol. 1 Page 179 and al-Durr al-Mukhtar]

Hadiths on Sadaqa-e-Fitr:

I. Hadrat ibn 'Umar said, “The Prophet made incumbent on every male or female, free man or slave, young or old, the payment of one Sa' of dates or barley as Sadaqat-ul-Fitr. The Messenger of Allah commanded that this sadaqah be paid before one goes to perform the Eid prayer.” [Sahih Bukhari - Book on Zakah, Volume 1, Page 204]

II. Hadrat Hasan said: Hadrat Ibn Abbas preached the people towards the end of Ramadan, standing on the pulpit (in the masjid) of al-Basrah. He said: “Bring forth the sadaqah relating to your fast.” The people, as it were, could not understand. “Which of the people of Medina are present here? Stand for your brethren, and teach them, for they do not know” said Hadrat ibn ‘Abbas. He further added: “The Messenger of Allah prescribed this sadaqah as one sa' of dried dates or barley, or half a sa' of wheat payable by every freeman or slave, male or female, young or old.” When Hadrat Ali came (to Basrah), he found that the price had come down. He said: “Allah has given prosperity to you, so give one sa' of everything (as sadaqah).” [Sunan Abi Dawood - Book on Zakah, Volume 1, page 229]

III. Hadrat ‘Abdullah ibn Tha’laba or Tha’laba ibn ‘Abdullah (narrator cannot recall exactly what the name was) ibn Abu Saghir, who narrates from his father that the Messenger of Allah said, “One sa' of wheat is enough from every two; young or old; freeman or slave; male or female. Those of you who are rich will be purified by Allah, and those of you who are poor will have more than they gave returned by Him to them.” [Sunan Abi Dawood - Book on Zakah, Volume 1, Page 228]

IV. Hadrat ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah prescribed Sadqatul Fitr, so that the fasts (kept throughout the month of Ramadan) may be purified from any falsehood, wrongdoing or evil talk, and (at the same time) it shall assist to feed the poor and the needy. [Sunan Abi Dawood - Book on Zakah, Volume 1, Page 227]

V. Hadrat ‘Amr ibn Shu’aib reports from his father, who reports from his grandfather that the Holy Prophet sent a person that he calls out loud in the streets of Makkah al-Mukarramah that Sadaqat ul Fitr is Wajib (necessary) upon every muslim male or female; freeman or a slave; young or old. [Sunan Tirmidhi - Book on Zakah, Volume 1, Page 146]

Bismillahi Dakhaltu Wa'Alayhi Tawakkaltu Wanawaytu Sunnatul I'tikaaf

Itikaaf Niyat in English

“With the Blessed Name of Allah have I entered (into the Masjid) and in Him have I placed my trust, and I have made the intention of the Sunnah of I’itikaf. O Allah open Your doors of Mercy upon me.”

Niyyah For Nafl I'tikaf
Niyyah For Nafl I'tikaf

NAWAYTUL I`TIKFA MA DUMTU FIL MASJID

I intend making I'tikaf for Allah, the High,
the Glorious, as long as I remain in the Masjid.

What is Itikaaf?

Itikaaf is to remain in Masjid for particular days with the intention and purpose of Allah's worship and dedicating himself to Allah in devotion in form of Dua, Azkar, Namaz, Zikr.

Itikaaf is sunnat-e-Mu’akkadah and must be performed in mosque in the last 10 days of Ramadan.
[Hazrat Sheikh ‘Abd al-Haq “Muhaddith-e-Dehlwi in Ashi’ah al-Lam’at Vol. 2 Pg. 118]

This can by one person or by group of persons of the particular place. As this is sunnat-e-Mu’akkadah, neglecting it will be accountable to the whole place of area they belong. If even a single person performs Itikaaf, the this religious duty shall be fulfilled on behalf of everyone. This Itikaaf is Sunnat-e-Kifayah.

Who is Mu'takif?

A person performing Itikaaf is called as Mu'takif. The mu’takif smust devote himself  Allah prayers. Recite the Holy Qur’an, Read Hadiths Holy Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam, learn and gain Islamic knowledge.
(Fatawa-e-‘Alamgiri, Vol 1 Page 198)

Types of Itikaaf

1) Wajib: This is for the one who had made a mannat or vow or pledge of Itikaaf for the sake of Allah, if his wish is fulfilled. This is to be performed for 3 days with fasting in it.

2) Sunnat-e-Mu’akkadah: This is performed on the last 10 days of Holy month of Ramadan. The person must enter on the 20th of Ramadan before sunset, Make the intention or Niyaat of Itikaaf to stay for 10 days and leave on 30th of Ramadan, after the moon is sighted.

3) Mustabab or Sunnat-e-Ghair Mu’akkadah: This is Nafl Itikaaf performed at any time. Lets say you entered the masjid, make a intention or niyaat of Nafl Itikaaf. You will be rewarded till the time you are in Masjid. Fasting is not required in Mustahab Itikaaf

Conditions Of I'tikaf:

1. Niyyah: Intention.
2. Taharah: To be free from Hadathul Akbar for entry and all hadath
for acquisition of reward.
3. Sanity: i.e. a person should not be mad.

Things Permitted During I'tikaf:
1. Eating.
2. Sleeping.
3. Discussing matters of Deen or necessary talk.
NOTE: It is Makruh to observe complete silence as a form of Worship
this does not however permit worldly talk.

One Is Permitted To Leave The Masjid:
1. For wajib ghusl.
2. For wudhu.
3. To answer the call of nature (toilet).
NOTE: Leaving the Masjid without a Shar’i reason will nullify the I'tikaf.

Things To Do During I'tikaf:
A Mu'takif should engage himself in the following:
1. Ibadah (any form).
2. Recital of the Holy Qur'an.
3. Nafl Salaah and dhikr.
4. Salawat (Durud) and Istighfar.
5. Remembrance of Allah I.

6. Learn or teach the knowledge of Deen.

Reward Of I'tikaf
Ibn Abbas Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha narrates Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings be Upon Him related ‘Whomsoever performs I'tikaf for a day: Allah I will spread three trenches between him (or her) and the fire of hell. The width of each trench being greater than the distance between the Heaven and earth.’

In addition: to perform I'tikaf of the last ten days of Ramadhan is equivalent to the reward of two Hajj and two Umrah!

Few Hadiths on Itikaaf

1) Hadrat ‘Ayeshah Siddiqah Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha reported that the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings be Upon Him used to engage in I’tikaaf. i.e. private devotions in the mosque during the last ten nights of Ramadan till he met his Lord. [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 1, Page 271 - Sahih Muslim, Vol 1, Page 371]

2) Hadrat Anas Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Holy Prophet Peace and Blessings be Upon Him used to engage in I’tikaaf in the mosque in the last ten days of Ramadan. But, one year he omitted the I’tikaaf so he engaged in I’tikaf during twenty nights the following year. [Sunan Abi Dawood, Vol 1, Page 334]

3) Baihaqi has reported on the authority of Hadrat Imam Husain that the Messenger of Allah has stated, “whosoever performs I’itikaf for ten days in the month of Ramadan, it is as though he has performed two ‘Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) and two Hajj (greater pilgrimage).”

Itikaaf for Women

Women can also perform Itikaaf at home by designating a part of their home, devoting self in Zikr, Namaz, Dua for Allah. Once you have made the intention of Itikaaf, you cannot take part in any household activities apart for your own requirement.

This is also performed for last 10 days of Ramadan, from 20th of Ramadan before sunset till 30th Ramadan till Moon Sighting. All the purity rules are applicable here also to the one performing Itikaaf

Important Notes by Mufti Muhammad Shahid Barkati

  • A man who performs i'tikaaf can go to the ghusl or wudhukhana built inside the mosque for all kinds of ghusl, but outside the mosque can go only for ghusl of impurity, that too when bathing in the mosque is not possible in any way. One cannot go out of the Masjid for Ghusl of cleanliness, coolness or Sunnah.
  • The place where the woman is performing i'tikaaf cannot go outside the place for any kind of Ghusl to any part of the house, even if the bathroom is on the side. If the impurity is caused by Ehtilam, then one can go to the home made bathroom, Hajj, Nifaas and association will break Itikaaf.

The Truth of Taraweeh 8 or 20 Rakat from Quran and Hadiths

The Truth of Taraweeh 8 or 20 Rakat from Quran and Hadiths

What is Taraweeh? How Many Rakats are there in Tarawih (Night Prayers of Ramadan)? How to Perform Taraweeh Salat? What is SALAT AL-TARAWEEH?

Watch this video to get all your answers by Renowed Islamic Scholar Hafiz Ehsan Qadri. This video will tell you the reality of How many rakats of Namaz (Taraweeh 8 or 20)  to pray? How to pray and How our beloved Prophet Muhammad Sallahu Alaihi wa Salam Prayed.

Open challenge By Hafiz Ehsan Qadri of One Million if any one proves Taraweeh is of 8 Rakats

The One Million Rupee reward- Taraweeh 8 Rakath challenge by Hafiz Ehsan Qadiri

Rs 1 Million as reward for the one who proves THARAVEEH to be 8 Rakaths from the Hadees below

Sahih Bukhari, Book of TAHAJJUD, Hadees no 248

Narrated Abu Salma bin 'Abdur Rahman: I asked 'Aisha, "How is the prayer of Allah's Apostle during the month of Ramadan." She said, "Allah's Apostle never exceeded eleven Rakat in Ramadan or in other months; he used to offer four Rakat-- do not ask me about their beauty and length, then four Rakat, do not ask me about their beauty and length, and then three Rakat." Aisha further said, "I said, 'O Allah's Apostle! Do you sleep before offering the Witr prayer?' He replied, 'O 'Aisha! My eyes sleep but my heart remains awake'!"

The explanation of the above Hadith

Tharaveeh changed to Night Prayer by the Wahabis/Salafis

Initially the Wahabis/Salafis tried to prove that Tharaveeh was 8 and not 20 by misquoting The Hadees of Syyida Aishah Siddeeqah (which is meant for Tahajjud and not Tharaveeh as it includes Ramazan and other Months as well)

Refer to the Hadees they quote

Some Points from the above Hadees

1. The Hadees is recorded by Imam Bukhari Alaihir Rahmah in the Chapter of Tahajjud, so to prove Tharaveeh from above is incorrect.

2. If this was for Tharaveeh, then they should offer Tharaveeh in the months other than Ramazan as well as mentioned in the above Hadees

3. They even cannot pray Tahajjud if they offer such lengthy Tharaveeh as mentioned in the above Hadees,

4. They should refrain wearing 3 quarter trousers, folding trousers upto the knee, praying without Turban or Cap because the Hadees talks about the beauty in Prayer and not like of ROWDIES

5. The Blessed Heart of Allah's Habeeb Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is always awake and engrossed in the remembrance of Allah Tha'ala and everything on the universe is apparent to The Most Beloved of Allah, Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.

And now, they started saying there is nothing called Tharaveeh and its only Qiyam ul Layl (Night Prayer) when they were badly exposed by Our Sunni Ulama

Dear Muslim brothers and sisters

Make sure to offer 20 Raka'aths as per The Established Sunnah and be away from such LAZY people

13) Wet dream, swallowing ones own saliva when still in the mouth, brushing teeth, smearing oil, ointment on unwounded body do not break fast. or used antimony [in his eyes].

14) In this month, many Muslims five chaity to the needy. It is called Zakat with is also a pillar of Islam.

Zakat is Farz and those who reject it as Farz are infidels and those who do not give Zakat are wrongdoers and worthy of execution and those who delay and do not give Zakat on time are sinners and their testimony or oath will not be accepted [Alamgiri,Bahar]. According to Shariat, Zakat is defined as from your goods to take one part for Allah which has been fixed by Shariat and to make a Muslim poor person the owner of it.

15) On completion of 1 Month of Fasting, Muslims celebrate the next as Eid. This is called Eid-ul-Fitr.

Eid is a day of celebration for Muslims, a day of happiness. On this day, Muslims perform two rakaats of prayer, meet one another, shake hands and embrace and give charity to the poor and needy. Islam teaches protecting the poor, helping the helpless, and easing the pain and sufferings of orphans and the meek at every turn, and they should not be forgotten, especially on the day of Eid. That is why Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ordered us to pay the Sadqa-e-Fitr before performing the Eid Salaah so that Muslims remember their poor brothers on this occasion and include them in their happiness.

16) The last 10 days of Ramadan has a special importance for Muslims. These days contains the Laylat Al Qadr or “Night of Power”. In this night the Holy Quran was revealed. On this night, Muslim stay awake the whole night in prayers.

Isha Witr Namaz Dua - Dua-e-Qunoot

Isha Witr Namaz Dua - Dua-e-Qunoot

Dua-e-Qunoot is recited in the third rakat of Witr (Witar) Salaah in Isha Prayer.

Abdullah ibn Abbas Radi Allahu Anhu that the Holy Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam offered 3 Cycles (Rakaats) in the Witr Prayer as reported in Saheeh Muslim

Hazrat Ayesha Radi Allahu Anhu reported in Abu Dawood and Tirmidhi hadith that the Holy Prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam used to offer 3 Cycles in the Witr Prayer. The Witr Prayer is Essential (Wajib) in the Night (Isha) Prayer.

Allahuma innaa nastaeenuka wa nastaghfiruka wa numinu bika wa natawakkalu alayka wa nusnee alaykal-khayra, wa nashkuruka wa laa nakfuruka wa nakhlaoo wa natruku maiy- yafjuruk, Allaahumma iyyaka nabudu wa laka nusallee wa nasjudu wa ilayka nasaa wa nahfidu wa narjoo rahmataka wa nakhshaa azaabaka inna azaabaka bilkuffari mulhiq.

"O Allah !! We seek Your help and seek Your forgiveness - and we believe in You and rely on You - and we praise You with all goodness - and we are thankful to You and not ungrateful to You - and we separate from and forsake whoever offends You. O Allah !! You alone we worship and for You only we offer the Prayer and the prostration. And towards You only do we rush, and present ourselves for service. And we hope for Your mercy and fear Your punishment. Indeed Your punishment will grasp the disbelievers."

If anyone doesn't know Qunoot Dua, he can recite the following dua:

Allahuma Rab-banaa Aatinaa Fid-dunyaa Hasanatan Wa Fil Aakhirati Hasanatan Wa Qinaa'Azaaban Naar.

"O our Rabb !! We seek of You good in this world and good in the Hereafter and safety from the torment of Hell." Or they should recite “Allahummaghfirlana” thrice.

Subbuhun, Quddusun, Rabbuna Rabbul malaa’ikati war-rooh;
Allahumma Ajirnee Minan Naar;
Ya Mujeero, Ya Mujeero, Ya Mujeer.

Taraweeh Namaz, Taraweeh Niyat and Taraweeh Dua (Tasbeeh-e-Taraweeh)

  • Tarawih salaah is SUNNAT MU-AKKADAH for both men and women.
  • To perform Tarawih with jama'ah is sunnat-kifayah for men.
  • If a person performs Tarawih at home whilst Tarawih is being performed at the Masjid, he will not be sinful. However, if all the neighbours perform their Tarawih alone at home, then all will be sinful because of neglecting the jama'ah.
  • The time for Tarawih is from after Isha salaah to a little before Subhus-Sadiq. It can be performed either before or after the Witr salaah.
  • If one has missed a few rak'ah of Tarawih and the Imam has commenced the Witr, then this Muqtadi may join for the Witr and complete the remainder of his Tarawih thereafter.
  • 20 raka'at with 10 Salaam are masnun, one should have a niyyah for 2 raka'at of Tarawih each time. After every 4 raka'at it is Mustahab to sit a while and read the above dua.
  • One may remain silent or recite the Qur'an or tasbih in a low voice or say Nafl salaah separately during the period of rest after every 4 raka'at.
  • It is makruh to perform Tarawih sitting if one has the strength of qiyam (standing).
  • While performing Tarawih some people do not join the Jama'ah from the beginning but join the Imam when he prepares to go into Ruku'. This is makruh. They should join at the beginning.
  • If one does not get the Jamaa'ah for Fardh of Eisha, he should perform his Fardh alone and then join the Jamaa'ah for Tarawih.

What’s the difference between Maghfirah (مغفرة ) and 'Afuw (عفو )?

What’s the difference between Maghfirah (مغفرة ) and 'Afuw (عفو )?

Maghfirah: is for Allah to forgive you for the sin but the sin will still be registered on your book of deeds. Maghfirah is Allah’s forgiveness for your sin but on the Judgment Day it will be written on your record, Allah will ask you about it but HE won’t punish you because of it

'Afuw: is for Allah to forgive you for the sin and delete it from your book of deeds as if it did not happen. ‘Afuw is Allah’s pardon for your sin, it will be completely erased from your record and Allah won’t ask you about it on Judgement day

This is why our Prophet (salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said that, this is the best Duaa to make on Laylatul Qadr:

"Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'annee"
(Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and Tirmidhi)

O Allah, You are The One Who pardons greatly, and You love to pardon, so pardon me.)"

So make sure you read this dua all the time and as much as you can. Make it one of your daily athkaar in Ramadan n even after this blessed month.

Imagine that you are standing on the day of Judgment being held accountable for your deeds, and you're not guaranteed your entry to Jannah.

Suddenly you find that you have mountains of Hasanat (rewards) in your record

Do you know from where these mountains of rewards come from?

Because in the Dunya you kept saying : ”SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi SubhanAllah al ‘Adhim”

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Two words are light on the tongue, weigh heavily in the balance, they are loved by Al Rahman, (The Most Merciful. One):

سُبْحَانَ اللّهِ وَ بِحَمْدِهِ ، سُبْحَانَ اللّهِ الْعَظِيمِ - SubhanAllahi wa biHamdihi, Subhan-Allahi 'l-`adheem (Glory be to Allah, and Praise, Glory be to Allah, the Supreme)"
(Bukhari , Muslim)
Rules of Taraweeh Salat and Taraweeh Dua

Rules of Taraweeh Salat and Taraweeh Dua

Tarawih is the twenty Rakat Namaz that is Sunnat-e-Maukida and is prayed in the month of Ramadan after the Farz Namaz of Isha every night.

The time of Tarawih is after praying the Farz of Isha until the beginning of the break of dawn [Hidaya]. In Tarawih the Jamaat is Sunnat-e-Kifayaa, meaning if all the people of the Masjid missed it then they would all be responsible for the sin and if one person prayed at home alone then he has not committed a sin [Hidaya, Qazi Khan].

Taraweeh salat is offered in Cycles (Rakaats) of two each. After every 4 Cycles, it is recommended to sit for approximately the time it take to offer 4 Cycles. While sitting, one may keep quiet or recite the Kalemah, or the Salutations or recite the following “Tasbeeh”:

Taraweeh Dua | Tasbeeh Raraweeh Dua

Subhanal Malikil Quddus;
Subhana dhil Mulki wal Malakuti;
Subhana dhil izzati wal aDhmati wal haybati wal Qudrati;
wal kibriyaa’i wal jabaroot;
Subhanal Malikil hayyil ladhi, la yunaamu wa layamutu;
Subbuhun, Quddusun, Rabbuna Rabbul malaa’ikati war-rooh;
Allahumma Ajirnee Minan Naar;
Ya Mujeero, Ya Mujeero, Ya Mujeer.

Rules to be followed for Taraweeh Namaz
  1. It is Mustahhab to delay it until one third of the night has passed and if you wait until half the night has passed then there is no harm [Durr-e-Mukhtar, Bahar-e-Shariat].
  2. Just as the Tarawih is Sunnat-e-Maukida for men, in the same way it is Sunnat-e-Maukida for women and they are not allowed to miss it [Qazi Khan].
  3. The twenty Rakats of Tarawih are to be prayed in two, two Rakats i.e. performing salaam after every two Rakats and therefore in total ten salaams. After every four Rakats it is Mustahhab to rest for the duration it took to pray the four Rakats, this rest is called Tarwih [Alamgiri, Qazi Khan].
  4. After the Tarawih has finished the fifth Tarwih is also Mustahhab. If the fifth Tarwih is a burden on people then do not do it [Alamgiri, etc.].
  5.  There is flexibility in Tarwih, whether you remain quiet or you can pray some Tasbeeh, Quran, Durood Sharif or Dua and if he wished he can pray Nafl alone, but to do this with Jamaat is Makrooh [Qazi Khan].
  6. Those who have not prayed the Farz of Isha cannot pray the Tarawih nor Witr until he prays the Farz.
  7. Those who prayed the Farz of Isha alone can pray the Tarawih with Jamaat but he must pray the Witr alone [Durr-e-Mukhtar, Radd-ul-Mohtar].
  8. If you have prayed the Isha Farz with Jamaat and then prayed the Tarawih alone, he can join the Jamaat for Witr [Durr-e-Mukhtar, Radd-ul-Mohtar].
  9. If you have some Rakats of Tarawih left and the Imam has stood up for Witr then it is better to pray the Witr with Jamaat as long as you have prayed Isha Farz with Jamaat and then you can pray the remaining Rakats of Tarawih. It is also allowed to complete your Rakats of Tarawih and then pray Witr alone [Alamgiri, Radd-ul-Mohtar].
  10. If people have prayed the Tarawih and now they want to pray it again then they can pray it alone but it is not allowed to pray it with Jamaat again [Alamgiri]. If one Imam prays Tarawih in two masjids and if he prays the full Tarawih in both masjids then this is not allowed. If the Muqtadee prays the Tarawih in full in both masjids [hen there is no problem, however, he is not allowed to pray Witr again if he has already prayed in the first masjid [Alamgiri].
  11. It is better to pray the Tarawih with Jamaat in the masjid. If the Tarawih is prayed in a house with Jamaat then you will not get the sin of missing Jamaat as it will still be counted but the reward will be less than praying in the masjid [Alamgiri].
  12. The Tarawih prayed behind a child will not count for any adults who prayed behind the child [Hidaya, Durr-e-Mukhtar, Alamgiri].
  13. In the whole month of Ramadan to finish the Quran once is Sunnat-e-Maukidah and to finish it twice is virtuous and to finish it three times is a good thing. You should not miss this opportunity just because people are idle [Durr-e-Mukhtar].
  14. To give a Hafiz a salary for praying the Tarawih is not allowed and the giver and taker are both sinners. A salary is not just a fixing of the fee such as I will take this much for praying the Tarawih or I will give you so much for praying the Tarawih, but if a Hafiz believes he will pray at a certain place he will get so much then this is also not allowed. If the people say we will not give you anything or the Hafiz says I will not take anything and then the public decide to give the Hafiz a gift or some money as a gesture to thank him for his efforts then there is no problem with this [Bahar-e-Shariat].
  15. Shabinah meaning to finish the whole Quran in one night in Tarawih. During today's era where a Hafiz prays the Quran at great speed that the words cannot be understood. Never mind praying the words where the pronunciation is done correctly the listeners are also in a state where some are sat down, some are lying down, some are even sleeping and some perform the Takbeer-e-Tahmnah when the Imam goes into the Rukooh and then they are doing this very quickly, in all these situations the Shabinah is not allowed. If the Hafiz prays speedily to pose off then this is Haram and is a sinner.
