Tips for night prayers (Taraweeh) in Ramadan

Tips for night prayers (Taraweeh) in Ramadan

To concentrate in the night prayers (Taraweeh) can be challenging, especially if you don’t understand Arabic.

1-Do sincere dua' just before Iftar and also after Isha prayer beseeching Allah to help you to concentrate in the Taraweeh in particular and salaah in general. Mu`adh (Radi'Allahu anhu) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Sall'Allahu alaihi wasallam) took hold of my hand and said:

"O Mu`adh! By Allah I love you, so I advise you to never forget to recite after every prayer:

"Allahumma a`inni ala dhikrika, wa shukrika, wa husni `ibadatika "

(O Allah, help me remember You, to be grateful to You,  and to worship You in an excellent manner).'' [Abu Dawud]

2-Another way to change this is to look over the translation of the next portion to be recited (during the day before the taraweeh), so that you can have a sense of what’s being recited and can ponder over its meaning and implications.

3-You can also try focusing on specific words that you understand and think about how they relate to Islam, Allah and you.

4-Also, before each rakah, remind yourself of the immense reward for performing taraweeh prayers properly.

5-Think that this could be your last Taraweeh! And that Allah is watching us pray.

6-Dont eat too much or heavy/oily and spicy food at Iftaar or before Taraweeh!

May Allah grant us all the strength and opportunity to make this Ramadan better than ever. Ameen!

Giving Sadaqa (Charity/Zakaat) does not lessen your wealth

Giving Sadaqa (Charity/Zakaat) does not lessen your wealth

Allah's Name (we) begin with, The Compassionate Most Merciful

As Salaatu Was Salaamu Alaika Ya Rasool'Allah صلٰى الله عليه و سلم

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Mas’ud radi Allahu anhu says, ‘We have been commanded to perform Namaaz and give Zakaat, and the Namaaz of the one who does not pay his Zakaat, is not accepted.’

It is in Bukhari and Muslim from Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu that Rasoolullah Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallam said, ‘Giving Sadaqa (Charity/Zakaat) does not lessen your wealth; and if a servant forgives the shortcomings of someone, Allah Almighty will increase his honour; and one who shows humility for the sake of Allah, Allah will exalt him (i.e. grant him Excellence and Respect).’

Hazrat Jaabir radi Allahu anhu reported that Rasoolullah Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallam said, ‘Verily Allah has removed harm (evil) from the wealth of one who has paid his Zakaat.’

Law:  If a person is Maalik-e-Nisaab, and in the middle of the year (i.e. in the course of the year) he acquired something of the same type (i.e. the same type of commodity), then the year for the new goods is not counted as a separate year, but the end of the year of the initial goods (or cash etc.) is the same year ending for this as well, even if it was acquired one minute before the year ended, and it does not matter whether this asset was attained by means of the same initial asset, or whether it was acquired by way of inheritance, or as Hibah (a gift), or by way of some other permissible means.  However, if it is of a different type, for example initially he had camels and now he acquired goats, then he will count a new year for that.  [Jauhira]

Special Blessings Of Ramadan (BAHAR-E-RAMZAN)

Special Blessings Of Ramadan (BAHAR-E-RAMZAN)

Five Special Blessings Of Ramadan

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (Radi Allahu Anhu) has narrated that the Beloved and Blessed Prophet (SallAllahu Alayhi wa Sallam) has stated, "In Ramadan, my Ummah has been gifted five such things which were not given to any other Prophet (Alayhim as-Salam) before me:

1. On the first night of Ramadan, Allah showers special mercy upon them and the one upon whom Allah showers special mercy will never be punished.

2. In the evening, Allah likes the smell emanating from their mouths (due to hunger) more than even musk.

3. Angels pray for their forgiveness every night and day.

4. Allah orders Heaven to be adorned for His (righteous) people and says, ‘Soon they will get rid of the grief of the world and find solace in My house and My bounties.’

5. On the last night of Ramadan, Allah forgives them all."

Fasting is a shield, for as long as you do not tear it apart (i.e. destroy it)

Fasting is a shield, for as long as you do not tear it apart (i.e. destroy it)

Allah's Name (we) begin with, The Compassionate Most Merciful

As Salaatu Was Salaamu Alaika Ya Rasool'Allah صلٰى الله عليه و سلم

In'sha Allah, over the next few days I will share with you some narrations and laws pertaining to Fasting and other aspects of Ramadaan.

Baihaqi has  reported that Rasoolullah Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallam said, ‘Fasting is a shield, and it is a strong fortress as protection from hell.’

Baihaqi reports from Abu Ubaidah Radi Allahu anhu and Tabrani from Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu that Rasoolullah Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallam said, ‘Fasting is a shield, for as long as you do not tear it apart (i.e. destroy it).’  It was asked, ‘With what will it be destroyed?’  He Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallam said, ‘with lies and backbiting.’

Law:  During Ramadaan it is impermissible to do such things which cause one to become so weak, that one feels there is a predominant likelihood of breaking the Fast.  A baker should thus bake bread until midday, and he should then take rest for the remainder of the day.  [Durr-e-Mukhtar vol.2 pg.157]  This command is (also) for builders, labourers and those who do physically challenging jobs.  If there is a risk of becoming very weak, then one should lessen the work and fulfil the fasts. Information on Islamic Halal & Haram Food

Information on Islamic Halal & Haram Food

Rules about halal eating and drinking. What must a Muslim Eat? What is Forbidden for a Muslim in eating?

Allah says in the Qur’an, “ O you who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism)! Eat of the lawful things that We have provided you with, and be grateful to Allâh, if it is indeed He Whom you worship.” (Al-Baqarah 2:172)

"O People, eat from the land what is permitted & good & do not follow in the footsteps of Shaitan, for he is an open enemy to you."
(Al Baqarah, 2:168)

Halal

Muslims are allowed to eat what is "good" (Qur'an 2:168) - that is, what is pure, clean, wholesome, nourishing, and pleasing to the taste. In general, everything is allowed (halal) except what has been specifically forbidden.

1) - Plants, fruits, vegetables and grains: All of these can be eaten as long as they are not harmful and poisonous to human beings.

2) - Living Animals : Divided into three:
A- Sea Animals
B- Land Animals
C- Birds

A- Sea  Animals

Only Fishes having scales are allowed. Other sea creatures such as sharks, turtles, whales, lobsters and crabs are Haraam. Prawns and Shrimps can be eaten. Only alive fishes removed from water is treated as Halal no matter who and how you catch it

B- Land Animals

Allah has permitted the eating of some animals and forbidden other animals. The first five verses of Surah Al Maidah (The Table Spread) give a brief information on halal and haram food

Domestic animals such as Camels, Cows, Goats and Sheep are permissible to eat. Wild Animals such as mountain sheep, wild cows and asses, gazelles and deer are permitted.

Animals that possess canine teeth or fangs aur forbidden from eating for a muslim such as dogs, rabbits, elephants and monkeys , snakes and tortoises.  Insects such as fleas and lice are also forbidden. However, locusts are permissible.

There are specific verses in the Holy Qur'an forbidding the eating of a pig.

Eating the meat of a horse, donkey or mule is Makruh (undesirable).

C- Birds.

There are two conditions for eating Birds

i- The body is covered with feathers.
ii- They are not classes as birds of prey (possessing talons).

How to distinguish between birds that are permitted or not

i- Every bird which, when in flight glides more than the flapping of its wings cannot be eaten.
ii- If a particular bird's movement is not known, then before eating one must check for the presence of one of the following:
a craw (where grain collects in the throat),
a gizzard (part of the stomach) or a projection (a fork-like extension on the bird's foot which performs the function of a talon).

Thus chickens, turkeys, pigeons and all small birds are permissible to eat. Even ostriches and peacocks are allowed.
Birds of prey like eagles, hawks and vultures are Haraam to eat. Crows, rooks and ravens should not be eaten either.

Other animals, which fly but are not, classified, as birds such as bats, bees and other flying insects are Haraam.

However, please note that in cases where one is in danger of dying through starvation, anything, including forbidden things, can be consumed to save life. This must be done as a last resort and only the absolute minimum must be eaten and must not be treated as permissible in Islam

Haram

Muslims are enjoined by their religion to abstain from eating certain foods. This is in the interest of health and cleanliness, and in obedience to God. In the Qur'an (2:173, 5:3, 5:90-91, 6:145, 16:115), the following foods and drinks are strictly prohibited by God

* Dead meat (i.e. carcass of an already-dead animal)
* Blood
* Flesh of swine (pork)
* Intoxicating drinks
* Meat of an animal that has been sacrificed to idols
* Meat of an animal that died from strangulation or blunt force
* Meat from which wild animals have already eaten
Ramadan is (like) a furnace which polishes and purifies sinners

Ramadan is (like) a furnace which polishes and purifies sinners

(These Madani pearls have been taken from Tafsir-e-Na’imi, Volume 2)

1. The blessed Ka’bah calls the Muslims towards it and distributes its bounties but this month comes to us and distributes blessings. It is as if the Ka’bah is a well and Ramadan is a river or the former is a river and the latter is rain.

2. In every month there are specific dates and timings for worship. For example, Hajj is performed in some particular days of Eid-ul-Adha.. Similarly, the 10th date of Muharram is the greatest in the whole month; but in Ramadan, specific worships are carried out in every moment of every day. Fasting, doing Iftar, waiting for Tarawi Salah, offering Tarawi Salah, sleeping or resting so that one can get up for Sehri and eating Sehri are all worships. In other words, every moment manifests the glory of Allah.

3. Ramadan is (like) a furnace. As a furnace polishes dirty iron and shapes the polished iron into a device that can be fitted into a machine and as a furnace shapes gold into jewellery and makes it fit to wear, similarly, Ramadan purifies sinners and elevates the ranks of virtuous people.

4. In Ramadan, the reward of a Nafl deed is equivalent to a Farz one and the reward of FarE deed is increased seventy times.

5. Some scholars say that if someone dies in the month of Ramadan, he will not be questioned in his grave.

6. Laila-tul-Qadr is also in this blessed month. The verse mentioned earlier says that the Holy Quran was revealed in Ramadan and in another verse Allah says:

Undoubtedly, We sent it down in Laila-tul-Qadr (the blessed and valuable night). (Kanz-ul-Iman [Translation of Quran])

It becomes clear by the combination of both the verses that Lailatul-Qadr is in Ramadan and it is most probably the 27th night, because there are nine letters in the Arabic words Lailatul-Qadr and these words appear three times in this Surah (ninemultiplied by three is twenty seven) therefore it may well be the27th night.

7. In Ramadan, Satan is held in captivity and the gates of Hell areclosed. Heaven is adorned and its gates are opened. This is why fewer sins are committed and more virtuous acts are carried out in these days. Even those who commit sins in this month, do so due to their Nafs or the evil temptations from their accompanying devils.

8. There will be no accountability of what is eaten or drunk in Ramadan.

9. On the Day of Judgement, Ramadan and the Holy Quran will intercede for the fasting person. Ramadan will say, ‘Ya Allah, I prevented him from eating and drinking during the day’
and the Holy Quran will say, ‘Ya Allah ! I prevented him from sleeping at night by making him recite me and offer his Tarawi Salah.’

10. In Ramadan, the Prophet of Rahmah, the Intercessor of Ummah, the Owner of Jannah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would free every slave and give charity in abundance. In Ramadan, Allah also frees people from the fire of Hell. Therefore, we should strive to perform virtuous deeds and avoid sins in Ramadan.

11. Ramadan is the only month whose excellence is mentioned in the Holy Quran by name. No other month is mentioned in the Quran by name, nor such virtues of any other month were described. Sayyidatuna Maryam (may Allaah be pleased with him) is the only woman whose name is mentioned in the Quran, and Sayyiduna Zaid ibn Garišah (may Allaah be pleased with him) is the only companion whose name is mentioned in the Quran. This proves the greatness of the three.

12. In Ramadan, prayers are answered at the time of IfIar and Sehri. This privilege has not been given to any other month.

13. There are five (Arabic) letters in the word 'RAMADHAN' - Raa is the pleasure (Raza) of Allah Ta'ala ; Meem is the Forgivness (Maghfirat) of Allah Ta'ala ;Duaad is the the security (Zamaanat) of Allah Ta'ala ; Alif is the love (Ulfat) of Allah Ta'ala ; And Noon is the Beneficience ir Bounty (Nawaal) of Allah Ta'ala.

There are five special worships in Ramadan. Fasting, Tarawi, recitation of the Holy Quran, I’tikaf, and worshipping at Lailatul - Qadr. So anyone who sincerely performs these five forms of worship will deserve the aforementioned five favours. (Tafsir-e-Na’imi, pp. 208, vol. 2)

Types of Fasting in Ramadan - Significance of Fasting in Islam

Types of Fasting in Ramadan - Significance of Fasting in Islam

Allah's Name (we) begin with, The Compassionate Most Merciful

As Salaatu Was Salaamu Alaika Ya Rasool'Allah صلٰى الله عليه و سلم

Baz’zaar, Ibn Khuzaima and Ibn Hib’ban reported from Amr bin Mur’rah Radi Allahu anhu that a person (once) said, ‘Ya Rasool’Allah Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallam tell me, if I bear testimony that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that you are the Rasool of Allah, and if I perform my five daily Namaaz, and give my Zakaat, and if I fast in Ramadaan, and if I remain standing (in Ibaadat) during the nights, then which category of people will I be in?’  He Sall Allahu alaihi wa Sallam said, ‘(you will be) from amongst the Siddiqeen and the Shuhada.’

There are three levels of fasting:

1. The fasting of the common folk (i.e. Laymen): this is to withhold the stomach and private parts from eating, drinking and sexual intimacy.

2. The Fasting of the (spiritually) Elite: with the exception of the above, they protect their ears, eyes, tongues, hands, feet and their entire body from sinful acts.

3. The Fasting of the (spiritually) Super Elite: they abstain from everything which is not for the sake of Allah completely, and they direct their attention only to Him (Allah).  [Jauhira Nayyira]
